“At The Cutting Edge”

Landowners in the East Riding of Yorkshire continue to be a ‘cut above the rest’ when it comes to hedgerow management – that’s the message from CPRE who have announced the winners of this year’s East Riding Hedgerow Awards.

The awards - which recognise and celebrate best practice in hedgerow management – are run annually by CPRE East Riding in partnership with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the HEYwoods Initiative - the trees and woodland initiative for Hull and the East Riding.

The 2011 CPRE East Riding Hedgerow Awards winners are: -

  • Best Overall Hedgerow Stewardship Mr Gordon Hawcroft, Holme Lodge Farm, Holme upon Spalding Moor
  • Best New Hedgerow Planting Burton Agnes Parish Council
  • Best Hedgerow Management Dr P Sproston and Mr R Hunt, Newport, near Gilberdyke

Margaret Cockbill, chairman of CPRE East Riding said,

“Our three award winners this year all show a clear commitment to best-practice in hedgerow stewardship and richly deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts. Yet again, our hedgerow awards prove just how much good practice takes place throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire and we are pleased to recognise and celebrate how this contributes to improving the unique and distinctive character of our rural landscape.”
